At the bottom end of Machaan, is a wide expanse of wetlands, my favourite spot. When I first came across these yurts, I thought it would be a very innovative form for our spa at Discovery Village, Kabini. Once the spa was up and running, I felt I could use a yurt for myself. That’s how I ended up with two connected yurts that are now the family’s weekend home at Kanakapura. The sun comes in through the transparent dome, wakes me up to the sound of the stream going by outside, add a cup of tea and you have an ideal morning.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our yurts are secured with a solid door and your choice of deadbolt or keyless entry. The UPVC windows within wooden frames can be secured from the inside. In addition, you can install any security system you wish — motion sensors, CCTV, whatever.

What size you order, is dictates by your need. Think about it as a room, referring to the sqft areas can give you an idea. A 20 ft yurt is 314 sqft, a 24 ft is 452 sqft and a 32 ft yurt is 804 sqft. So how much area do you need for the purpose you wish your yurt to serve?

Once you decide on the size, check where you plan to install the yurt. Check if you have enough space for your plans. Check if there is sufficient space for external washrooms if that is how you plan it. Check if there is enough space between yurts if you are planning multiples.

Yurts are designed to be cool in summer and warm in winter. However air-conditioning is recommended inside the yurt for comfort. As we have mentioned earlier, our yurts come with a layer of insulation between the outer and inner fabrics.

We are installing our yurts in Pench, Madhya Pradesh, one of the hottest places in India (temperatures go up to 48°C).
