1. Introduction:
Getting to know the yurt.
Yurt works on the principle of compression and tension, and rely on balance of forces for stability. The roof rafters are held up by the compression ring (tono ring) at the peak and at their bottom, by the lattice wall. A tension cable that runs around the lattice wall resists the thrust of the rafters. The lattice wall is also pulled inward by the tension cable.
2. Weather & Security:
Questions we get asked the most.
Our yurts can handle up to 4 ft of snow, as modelling has shown us. We also provide additional rafter supports for high snowfall areas.
As we have mentioned before, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) has shown that our yurts can handle winds up to 280 kmph., without any deformation.
Yurts are designed to be cool in summer and warm in winter. However air-conditioning is recommended inside the yurt for comfort. As we have mentioned earlier, our yurts come with a layer of insulation between the outer and inner fabrics.
We are installing our yurts in Pench, Madhya Pradesh, one of the hottest places in India (temperatures go
up to 48°C)
Our yurts are secured with a solid door and your choice of deadbolt or keyless entry. The UPVC windows within wooden frames can be secured from the inside. In addition, you can install any security system you wish — motion sensors, CCTV, whatever.
3. Customisation:
Planning and designing your yurt.
There is a lot you can customise about the yurt. So let us take it from the base up.
You can choose to have a PCC (plain cement concrete) platform for your yurt. You could also decide to go for a metal and wood platform.
You can choose to have tiles or a wooden flooring. If you have other options like polished concrete, that is also a possibility.
Of course, you can. We can have partitions to segregate the yurt into living and sleeping areas. Or, in larger yurts, have multiple rooms.

Yes, it can. But we have designed it in such a way that you can still see the rafters and the dome from the washroom. More in Preparation.

Yes, you could. But of course, you cannot do away with the lattice wall. More in Purchase.
Of course, you could. We have 40 colours of exterior fabric. So when you have different colours for the wall and roof, you have 40 x 40 combination options to choose from. You can choose colours here. Taking a look

No, you do not. We use the same PVC coated polyester fabric for all our yurts.
Yes, you could. All of these are possible. All of them take time, take money. Check here for a yurt with a mezzanine.
No, it does not. We leave the pleasure and privilege of decorating your yurt to you!
Yes, we do. We have remote-controlled openers for the dome • dome curtains • electrical panels customised for the lattice wall • air-conditioner frames.

4. Purchase:
Identifying and ordering your yurt.
What size you order, is dictates by your need. Think about it as a room, referring to the sqft areas can give you an idea. A 20 ft yurt is 314 sqft, a 24 ft is 452 sqft and a 32 ft yurt is 804 sqft. So how much area do you need for the purpose you wish your yurt to serve?
Once you decide on the size, check where you plan to install the yurt. Check if you have enough space for your plans. Check if there is sufficient space for external washrooms if that is how you plan it. Check if there is enough space between yurts if you are planning multiples.
The space also needs to accommodate a concrete or wooden platform in the size of the yurt. So check if the ground needs to be levelled, stilted or shored up.
Like we mentioned earlier, we have 40 colours of fabrics to choose from. You can choose to have different colours for the roof and the walls.
1. You need to decide whether the washroom will be en-suite or outside.
2. You need to decide how many doors and windows you need. Your brief helps us figure the number of fenestrations. Choose styles here.
3. You need to decide on who will do the space planning and interiors.
Yes, we do. We have a few layouts in place. You can choose from our layouts page or we can design a new layout based on your requirement. A new layout, obviously, will come at an additional cost of Rs. 50,000/-.
(Or Rs. 30,000/-, without 3D renders ).
No, you don’t that is something we leave to you and your interior designer.
That again is between you and your interior designer.
In alignment with the layout plan (ours or yours), we will share plumbing and lighting drawings. Which you can implement.
No, it does not. Choice of flooring varies from customer to customer and hence we avoid including that in the kit or price.

Based on your design brief, we need to arrive at a space plan. This we can do with our architect or yours.
No, we do not. We will provide plans for PCC platforms or wooden platforms as per your decision. You will have to get this done at your end with a local contractor.
No, not yet. But soon, we intend to. But we recommend you do not wait for your purchase. Order now!
We follow all regulations prescribed by the Govt. of India and provide all mandated declarations.
Yes, they do. We offer a 10-year warranty on natural wear and tear to the wood and fabrics used in construction. Damage caused by external causes or acts of god are not covered by the warranty. Check contract for more details.
Our yurts are sturdy and strong but can also be relocated, if you so wish. It takes 3 days to disassemble and 7 days to reinstall. So if you plan to shift your yurt, it is possible.
Yes, you can. The advantage with a yurt is that unlike a permanent structure, the yurt is not dead money post-installation. It can be relocated or even sold.
There is no resale rate as such for the yurt at this point in time. or a formula to arrive at it. It will be a rate you arrive at after factoring the age and condition of the yurt, and the transportation and relocation costs
involved.
5. Preparation:
Plans, work on site and such.
You need to ensure that the platform is in place, the arrangements for plumbing and electrification are done. If you have chose to go with tiles for the flooring, it needs to be laid pre-installation; if wood, it can be
done post installation of yurt. Your structure for the washroom, if outside the yurt, needs to be complete.
We provide detailed drawings for the platform based on whether it is PCC (plain cement concrete) or wood. You can use the drawing to get your civil contractor and/or carpenters to build the platform.
A word of caution: The platform has to be a perfect circle the size of your yurt. We have noticed that people often get this wrong (though it is quite basic) and this increases the time for installation considerably. Please ensure QC on this is done with our installation team, before they arrive at your site.
Based on your plans, we will provide detailed drawing for these. You can get your electricians and plumbers to have these ready on site before The Outfitters arrive.
If they are on the exterior, we will provide working details in our drawings for your contractor. If washrooms are en-suite, then your contractor can work with The Outfitters once they are there.
This depends a lot on our factory and our current yurt-load. But we will intimate clearly, on order, when your yurts can be shipped.

6. Shipping:
Our yurts are flat packed
You can either pick up your yurt/yurts at The Out Factory. Or we can organise for it to be shipped to your location.
Yes, we do have transporters we use regularly and hence, we might be able to take a little advantage on rates with them. Shipping costs can be paid directly to the transporter at the time of delivery. The Out Factory will provide you with tracking information for you to keep an eye (and an ear) on the shipment.
Unfortunately, we do not have a one-size-fits all answer to this question. It depends on delivery location, number of yurts, type of transportation used, etc.
Unfortunately, same answer as above.
Insurance can be arranged with the transporter at your cost. We would recommend insurance.
The Out Factory yurts are flat-packed, crated and shipped to your site. With extra precautions for the glass sections.
If you can arrange forklifts, that would be the best way to unload. Or else, you will need about 4 (very strong) men to unload manually
Please ensure the yurt is stored in a dry place and ensure it is covered and protected from rain till The Outfitters arrive
7. Installation:

We have already discussed what you need to do in Preparation.
Yes, there is an installation cost involved. This will be provided in the estimate.
No. Our yurts need to be installed by our team, which has the skill and experience to do it.
Yes, everything to do with the yurt will be handled by The Outfitters. They are trained for this and have considerable experience. However, they will need the support of your local team.
There could be several reasons for this. If they check and figure that platform construction is not right (as is often the case), corrections will need to be made. If the plumbing and wiring needs corrections, that will need to be done. In addition, you have the flooring and the washrooms to be completed.
No. The Outfitters travel with their kits. You will however need to arrange 18-feet tall stepladders.
Installation of 1 yurt takes 72 hours. But that is provided everything is in place — platform, wiring, plumbing. And of course, weather. We do not install while it is raining, obviously. Uninterrupted power
supply is essential. Please ensure you have a generator available on site.
Yes, you need to arrange food and accommodation, at your expense, for The Outfitters.
Yes. At a later date if you wish to relocate the yurt, The Outfitters can be sent to disassemble the yurt. At a cost, of course.
Post disassembling, if you wish to have it relocated, you will have to arrange loading, transportation and unloading. Post this, The Outfitters can re-install at a new location. All of this comes at a cost that will take into consideration the labour involved and the time estimated.
8. Maintenance:
Keeping your yurt young.
Actually you need to rephrase the question to ‘how easy it is to maintain my yurt?’. A yurt is incredibly easy to maintain. Whether you believe it or not, all your yurt needs is regular dusting and an occasional powerwash.
We have chosen Ferrari fabric not just for structural integrity and durability, they are super-easy to clean as well. Power-wash them every 6 months or as required — with detergents only if there are stubborn stains — and they will be as good as new. Like we have mentioned, the manufacturers give us a 10-year warranty on the fabric but it will last a lot longer with these simple maintenance measures.
The interior is wood and PVC-coated polyester. All you need to do is dust.
No. This is the reason we use PVC-coated polyester and not cotton-based fabrics.
Not at all. The wood is coated with Termiguard® for guarding against termites, fungus and borers and we apply twin coats of Plantag® oil for water resistance, and wood surface and grain maintenance. Exterior wooden frames need sanding and oiling every 12 months. It is easy to do and out team will instruct you on how that is done.
Our request is that you inform us and not try to address it yourself. Once we know what the issue is, we can talk you through how the situation can be best handled.
Well, there are lots of things to worry about like climate change, isolationism, GenZ, the works. Fortunately, your yurt won’t be one of them. It will go on and on and on, like the Duracell bunny. Enjoy your yurt.
